MOLINO MID-COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY
MEETING MINUTES
August 10, 2017
CALL TO ORDER/ATTENDANCE: The meeting was called to order at 6:40 PM by the president, Sarah Jenness. Twenty-one members and guests were present.
WELCOME AND COMMUNITY NEWS: Lillian Scott asked for prayers for her sister Helen Myers.
INVOCATION: Prayer by Tom Helms.
PLEDGE TO THE FLAG: Led by Grace Lorenz.
MINUTES: The minutes of the July meeting were emailed to the members. The minutes were approved as presented.
TREASURER'S REPORT: John King gave the treasurer's report. The checking account balance is $21,077.20.
COMMITTEES:
OLD BUSINESS:
Wen Livingston reported on the library's summer reading program. This was the first year for the adult program and the kid's reading club had lots of interest and many reached their goal. The Halloween and Christmas programs are now in the planning process. Wen invited everyone to participate in the monthly book discussion group.
The Veteran's Day event in November will feature Mr. Scott Herrington who served in VietNam and is the author of a book.
NEW BUSINESS:
Ted Hassebrock has been searching for someone who will video, record and produce (into DVDs) the oral histories of several of our local people. He was given a price of $240 for each interview project.
Ted made the motion that we accept this proposal. Marty Lorenz seconded the motion; motion passed.
Sarah suggested we have a Scholarship Committee to begin the process of seeking those high school seniors who would like to apply for a MMCHS scholarship to be awarded in the spring. The committee will be appointed in the September meeting. If anyone would like to serve, please let Sarah know.
Donna Ging made the motion that MMCHS become an official Partner-in-Education with Molino Park Elementary School. Grace Lorenz seconded the motion. There was some discussion about the type of projects that we could be involved in to help students, teachers, and to promote our outreach in the community. Sarah called for a vote and the motion passed.
Since we had several guests present, Sarah asked Marty to explain the advantages of membership and the types and fees: $10 for an annual membership and $50 for Lifetime.
Sarah asked that we continue to gather our information on Molino history, so that a written account in the form of a book can soon be begun. Phillip Mayhair sent her the written info he used for his presentation earlier in the year.
Our annual meeting in January will be here soon and Sarah asked us to decide if we wanted to go to Jimmy's Grill again in 2018. We'll need to let him know very soon since the restaurant space for a group is very limited now.
Mike Roberts, a freelance writer for the Pensacola News-Journal, has been out to our museum for pictures, interviews and information on Molino history. His article will be appearing soon in the PNJ.
PROGRAM:
Virginia Shelby had a program prepared, but due to the business meeting running late, she will present her program in September before the business session.
ADJOURNMENT:
The meeting adjourned at 7:40 PM.
