The Story of Molino School
The first Molino School was a small one-room box-like structure located near present day Brickyard and Fairground Roads. It is not known when the school was built, but records show that in 1878, there were 23 schools in Escambia County. Our school in Molino was School No. 7, which indicated that Molino was one of the progressive settlements in the county. There were no roads leading to the school and it could be reached only by walking through the woods.
In October 1909, a new one-room school was built on present day Fairground Road near the location of the first school building. This building was 22x32x12 feet and was constructed at a cost of $423.10. This little red school house still stands today.
In July of 1914, when the town of Molino was at its peak, Mr. L. F. Matthews, one of the school trustees, asked the school board for a new and larger building. The board approved a new three-room brick building with 40 desks and 12 square feet of black boards. This school was located at the corner of present-day Jacobi Road and Hairston Street.

In May 2003, Molino School closed and moved to the newly constructed Molino Park Elementary School. Molino Park was the result of the consolidation of Molino Elementary School and Barrineau Park Elementary School. Mr. Dale Cooey was the first principal. The school is located at 899 Highway 97 (Atmore Highway).
